Birds

Birds are great. You ever see them flying around? I get a lot of joy and fascination out of sharing an environment with them. Credit to my mom for drawing my attention to them as a kid.

As other topics on this site demonstrate, I like to learn by organizing information. Here, I'm motivated to:

  • Identify birds by sound when I only know them by sight
  • Identify new birds by both sight and sound
  • Get a feel for which birds appear in which seasons

Childhood Classics

American Robin
American Robin
Often called a sign of spring, though I see them year round. There's something special about hearing their song at dawn.
Black-capped Chickadee
Black-capped Chickadee
My mom's favorite bird. Often the first bird to visit a new feeder.
Mourning Dove
Mourning Dove
I often see them sitting on wires. Their wings whistle when they take off.

North Cambridge Crew

Red-winged Blackbird
Red-winged Blackbird
These fly around the marsh by our home. The female is streaky brown.
Gray Catbird
Gray Catbird
Apparently it's named for its cat-like call but that's not any cat I know.
